The yacht charter and sailing area of Germany can be described as a “challenging area”, but at the same time it offers breath-taking landscapes and a very attractive coast line.
Germany does not offer the sailors or yacht sport enthusiasts the typical summer feeling, but with the North Sea and Baltic Sea a very demanding sailing area.
On the east coast are picturesque villages in protected lagoons. The islands Hiddensee, Rügen and Greifswald Bodden area are just some of the hot spots.
So “easy-going” as in the Mediterranean is not on the 98.6 km long North-Baltic Sea canal … strict rules go ahead to pass the canal.
Sailboats are not allowed to sail during passing the canal – but it is allowed to hoist up the sails in addition to the engine. During engine-cruising a black cone must always be set and visible. For all sports boats (motor and sailing yachts) there is an absolute prohibition on night traveling, and the daytime times are strictly regulated as well.
For many sailing yachts it is difficult to cross the canal in a day trip. An intermediate stop in Rendsburg is therefore a good point for many sailors.
Hamburg, Kiel and Bremerhaven are the largest supply options. A lot of smaller marinas and shipyards have settled along the coastal region as well and offer quite good options.
Some domestic charter companies can be found along the German coasts. Bremerhaven, Flensburg, Rostock, Cuxhaven, Heiligenhafen are only small selection of attractive starting points for a sailing trip in Germany.
